Using Visual Tools To Develop Number Sense

Using everyday classroom resources that don’t cost the earth to build visual strategies.

This resource details how I use basic everyday items in a maths classroom to develop visual strategies and in turn building number sense for children. The resources that can be used to develop visual strategies need not be expensive. Used in conjunction with my resource on using agent eyes you will find children beginning to notice patterns around them and in turn developing an awareness of numbers and what that written number actually stands for. I find that using these items, like tens frames, pattern cards, dice, playing cards are very effective and I use them in agency all the time. This resource sequences how I will introduce them and how they flow on from each other.
